Our Team

OUR FOUNDERS

Kevin and Katie Leneker, a spirited brother-sister duo, founded Single Handed Consulting in 2013. Kevin was born with one arm and knows, quite literally, what it means to live with a disability and tackle obstacles single-handedly.

 

Kevin managed workers' compensation claims for the Department of Labor & Industries for over ten years. He also managed self-insured claims for the City of Seattle for two years and served as a risk manager for the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

 

Kevin brings a unique perspective as a former injured worker

and as an employer, when he owned and operated a construction company for eight years. He is well acquainted with the cost burden L&I rates place on small business owners. And as an injured worker, he lived through the uncertainty and fear that often accompany a major — and often-devastating — disruption in employment. He approaches every case with authentic empathy and understanding because of his life experiences.

 

Katie started her career at the Department of Labor and Industries as a claims manager and has been in the vocational field as a vocational rehabilitation consultant for over fifteen years. She created, implemented, and has actively managed BIAW’s retraining assistance program within the retro program for the past three years.

 

Katie’s innovative collaborations with various employers and claim stakeholders is trailblazing the future of vocational services in Washington and beyond. Employers save money, employees feel supported and validated and both parties work in tandem with the SHC team to ensure a thriving workforce.  

 

Kevin and Katie know that finding an injured worker employable isn’t just about a vocational rehabilitation “paper process” – it is a way of interacting with those around us. Showing respect, communicating clear expectations and providing stakeholder education while supporting cooperation between employers, employees and agencies is central to everything we do at SHC.

THE SHC TEAM

The client services team at Single Handed Consulting believes there is more to vocational rehabilitation than just “handling” a claim. Collectively, our client services team has over 150 years of experience in the disability claims management field. This includes time as L&I caseworkers, as vocational counselors, and as self-insured plan claims adjusters. We collaborate in teams to ensure our clients get the benefit of this breadth and depth of knowledge. Claims are resolved quicker, your costs are reduced and employees are more successfully integrated back into the workplace.
